Beer & Brats
This ongoing project focuses on the Beer & Brats fundraiser being put on by the Peoria Art Guild. They are trying a new marketing technique focusing on social media and other "viral" means. Myself and several others are designing the promotional materials which started off with a comic book like story focusing on Charles Dickens. To keep with this theme I designed the poster too look like a comic book cover with the pertinent information, where, what, and when, easily seen from the street with the other information going on a second poster mimicking a comic book page. I also designed another two-page spread focusing on the Mentor Apprentice Program focusing on the theme of starving artists which is being e-mailed and distributed electronically as part of the promotional materials.
Outside the Lines Poster
This poster is for an art show being put on by Robert Morris University’s art and design club Outside the Lines for local area high school students. I wanted something that would really pop when you saw it and personified the theme of ‘Outside the Lines”. I painted a fake plant to use as a prop. I then showed it being painted by the student while a canvas sits pristine, white, and untouched next to him; thus illustrating the concept of outside the lines and lateral thinking. I also kept the theme running through the poster by taking “Outside the Lines” and “Scholarships will be awarded” and outlining them around the actual text. To add more pop to the image, I muted everything but the plant and brought its vibrance out.
Coda Clothing
This start–up clothing company based in Eureka, Illinois asked me to design some shirts for them. Coda Clothing is looking to get in to the same market as such popular clothing brands as Affliction, Manchester Limited, and Ed Hardy but with a bit more shock value to their shirts. I drew these two designs by hand and then scanned them in to retouch, add color, and prepare them to be screen printed on to t-shirts.
Hick'ry Stick Logo
Peoria Heights based catering service who specializes in hickory smoked meats needed a new logo. Their old logo was hastily thrown together and featured a clip art chef that was far from unique. The only aspect of the logo they liked was the wooden typeface, which has apparently disappeared. They wanted a logo that showed off their smoking process but did not want to use any one particular kind of meat in fear of being pigeon holed as a BBQ place and such. I recreated the typeface and added it to a spit, turns out a non de-script pieces of meat just don't look appetizing, and positioned the flames so that a lick of the flames would become the apostrophe in Hick'ry.
DTM
Dan The Man, or DTM, is a local independent wrestler who wrestles as a super hero. He needed a logo that would be used on his in–ring attire and other promotional items. The contrasting color of the letter forms and his tights create a logo that stands out in the ring and is easily recognizable. Other color variations are easily created and integrated in to his in–ring persona. The logo is screen printed on to his shirt and embroidered on to his cape and also takes cues from those of comic book super heroes which his “gimmick” incorporates.
Evince
This project required the full creation of a twelve page magazine from concept to printing. All photographs and illustrations used were taken/created by me. The layout was used to convey the feeling of a magazine aimed at those interested in art.
"Untitled" Poster
Outside the Lines put together a show for its members at One World Cafe in Peoria, Illinois and needed a poster and post card to promote it. Being a group show, I wanted to show off the different member’s work but did not want to use simple vertical or horizontal strips. One of my pieces incorporated One World in it, so I put that in the center with the other works radiating out to show off everyone’s work and also bring more attention to the show’s location.
Einstein Energy
For this project, I worked in a group to create a product and take it from brainstorm to full mock up. In this three person team, I took on the roll of creative director and was in charge of creating and laying out all graphics. Einstein Energy is an energy drink company focusing on a slightly different market than most energy drinks, namely students and other intellectuals over the extreme sports crowd.
